Redesigned Escape from Ford for 2013
For 2013, Ford is revamping its small crossover Escape with a new and modern sheet metal exterior. It is also making it more aerodynamic by lowering its body and making it longer and wider. Even with its 4-cylinder engine, the turbocharging and direct injection makes it a good performance vehicle while providing fuel economy.
The 1.6-liter in-line 4, 178 horsepower, six speed automatic transmission comes with front wheel drive (FWD). The power train is smooth as silk and automatic transmission is slick. As a result, it delivers whopping 23/33/26 city/highway/combined miles per gallon (mpg) respectively. It comes with such standard features including front side air bags, front and rear side curtain air bags and driver knee air bag. The AWD version delivers 30 highway mpg. Not too bad for a price tag starting around $26,445.
However, the dash is not so impressive. It has lots of odd shapes making it busier and the driver’s rear view is not great. However, it is still an IIHS Top Safe Pick. One thing that it brags about is easy opening of the backdoor with a waving of the foot under the bumper. There has been few recalls so far creating some doubt in prospective buyers.
