New engine technology to power BMW vehicles
At the BMW Group Innovation 2012, it introduced a completely new engine family known as Efficient Dynamics. In an effort to increase the fuel efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and furthering its goal to come up with a total electric engine, the BMW came up with a 3-, 4-, 6-cylinder, gasoline and diesel, TwinPower Turbo engine they call the BMW Efficient Dynamics. The new engine made its debut in the U.S. with Z4 sDrive28i. The engine produces 260 lb-ft of torque that is 30 percent more powerful than the 6-cylinder equivalent. Its maximum output of 240 horsepower which is achieved at 5,000 rpm comes at a point 1,500 rpm lower than the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder equivalent engine. BMW expects to use the engine for its current and future standard drive units.
Building block for the engine includes TwinPower Turbo technology and VAL VETRONIC. TwinPower indicates the combination of variable load control and the latest fuel injection technology. VAL VETRONICS is a throttle-free load control system that BMW developed since 2001. The result is more responsive engine and better engine torque compared to conventional load control. The new technology allows BMW to incorporate it with many new capacities and any number of cylinders.
