It is time to clean your headlights
Driving when it is dark outside is difficult for many especially elderly and those with impaired vision. Besides your health condition, your vehicle’s headlights could also contribute to the poor visibility especially during nighttime driving. Here are few steps you can take to improve the visibility.
- As your vehicle get older, your headlight covers get yellowed and dirty. When you see these signs it is time to clean your headlight covers. You can buy a restoration kit from a store that sells automobile parts. The kit may include not only polishers and cleaners but also a sealer to apply on your headlight to prevent oxidation. Another option is to replace the entire headlight with newer one that comes with more modern technological advancements.
- If you are replacing your headlights, make sure the new lights are High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps. They produce 2 ½ times more light than your old conventional headlights. Light emanation comes with a bluish hue with minimal fading on edges.
- Consider replacing your old bulb with a newer brighter and powerful bulb.
- When changing a burn out bulb, consider changing both bulbs to maintain an even brightness on both of your headlights.
