Not just an automobile auction
The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company LLC was founded in 1967 by Tom Barrett III and Russ and Nellie Jackson. They hold four multi-day auctions in Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Palm Beach, Florida and their home grounds of Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2011 they sold about 2,700 automobiles at their auctions. The founders grew up admiring, restoring, racing, driving, and collecting cars. Today they are famous for auctioning classic cars including muscle cars and restored Model T’s.
The Barrett-Jackson is not just an automobile auction house. The Barrett-Jackson is also known for helping many charities. From their first fund raiser for the Scottsdale library system they have been raising funds for charities for more than 45 years. They have raised over $46 million for various charities over the years. The entire proceeds from some of their auctions go to charities. Among those charities that benefit from their generosity includes Paralyzed Veterans of America, Childhelp, Armed Forces Foundation and Casa Esperanza Para Niño’s. In 2010 they created Russ and Brian Jackson Cancer Research Fund at the Transnational Genomics Research Institute. It specializes on colon cancer research. The company founder Jackson and one of his son died from colon cancer.
