Ferrari Chief Won’t Stand in Way of Schumacher Comeback
Speculation continues to swirl that seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher will be making a return to racing in 2010 with the Mercedes GP team. The latest news comes from Schumacher’s former team Ferrari, with whom Schumacher signed a three-year deal as a consultant earlier this season. However, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo told the Daily Telegraph that they would not stand in the way if Schumacher wanted to stage a comeback with Mercedes.
Asked about the consultancy deal, di Montezemolo said: “No, not binding. It’s clear that if he decides to take another road our [consultancy] agreement will no longer be valid, that is logical. You can’t work with a competitor and with us at the same time.”
Meanwhile, Schumacher’s fellow German driver Timo Block told The Press Association that “it is quite obvious” that Schumacher will be racing for Mercedes in 2010.
