Success of part supplier Dana Holdings since bankruptcy
Parts suppliers to the auto industry play an important role in the success of a car manufacturer. Dana Holdings is one of those companies that supply major parts. Others include BorgWarner, Meritor, and American Axel & Manufacturing.
Dana provides drive line components and power technologies to vehicles from cars to heavy trucks and off-highway vehicles such as forklifts. You can find their parts from Chevy Colorado to Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport supercar. Dana shares a duopoly with Meritor for truck parts in North America. They have a partnership with Sifco Industries to supply parts to the fast growing South American market. They also have a 50 percent partnership with China’s Dongfeng Motor through its Dongfeng Dana Axle which caters to the Asia-Pacific region. Due to the success of these ventures, Dana now derives 61 percent of its sales outside North America.
In 2008 when all auto industry players including parts and vehicle manufacturers are having problems, Dana filed for Chapter 11 reorganization. Dana’s new management team deserves credit for its success since emerging from the 2008 bankruptcy. The auto, truck and off-highway sectors are ripe for a comeback and Dana is sure to benefit from it.
