Korean GP Site to Host First Event in September

South Korea’s new Formula 1 circuit will get its first race day test at the end of September with what race organizers are calling the Asian Festival of Speed. According to Motorsport.com, the race program at the track in the South Jeolla province is headlined by the Asian GT series along with junior single seaters.

The races are designed to serve as a warm-up to the track’s debut as a Formula 1 venue in October 24. The event was originally scheduled for August; however, track officials pushed the race back to late September, citing construction delays “caused by bad weather.” This did little to quell fears that the track won’t be ready for the inaugural Korean Grand Prix, but venue’s principal said that any concerns are misguided.

“This delay has caused many rumours about whether the event will ever take place,” said Motorsport Asia’s chief executive David Sonenscher. “I have personally visited the site several times and I feel very sorry for them that despite all their hard work, they missed the deadline by only a couple of weeks. I can assure you that it was not through lack of effort or commitment.”
